Jamie Delaine is a very talented photographer and writer! A few weeks ago, she photographed her longtime friends in the cutest proposal ever!
my youth & young adults group, Revolution Movement, runs 3 camps the last two weeks of summer. i was only able to attend the first one for ages 13-19 as a leader and it was there that my friend josh asked his girlfriend brianna to be his wife. at 1 o’ clock in the morning, on stage at the end of a talent show, in front of 200+ sweaty teenagers. she giggled yes. and he teared up a little bit. and the chapel full of campers and leaders clapped and cheered louder than they had for any other talent show act that evening.
so josh is famous for his humour in our friend circle. he has a wonderful “art ministry.” he likes to draw noah’s ark, animals, snakes, crows, monsters, mcdonalds hamburgers but especially furbies. he often “blesses” youth staff at church with drawings on their desks. he regularly employs his giftings on friend’s birthdays. i have many-a-lovely card from josh. and they all kill me. so when pastor justin announced that josh would be the last act of the night — brianna suspected nothing. she had been sitting near the back row with friends and josh was at the front all evening. i had known for since the beginning of the week that josh had the ring and tonight would be the night. i couldn’t help but glance over to see how the anticipation was treating him. he was nervous. when the time came, he jumped on stage, throwing his hands up in the air. [when he saw this picture later he said he had no recollection of doing this. "yes, josh, that's how you greeted people." oh. weird.]
he told the audience he had been working on this talent for about two years now. he had invested a lot of time, money and his heart. he needed a volunteer… and pretended to search around the room before calling out brianna’s name. she wasn’t quick to jump up — brianna doesn’t quite love the spotlight like josh does but eventually she walked on stage quietly.
he told her to wait, went off-stage grabbed a small box and came back.
it clicked for brianna in this moment. josh began to talk to her, and i wish i could remember the exact words, but i was too concerned with photos…
i do know that he said he had the best girl in the world and God had blessed him beyond belief. she said yes.
on the afternoon of their engagement [he proposed at 1am on august 24th, we took these photos at 7pm -- see, same day!] i grabbed these two out of the dining hall to celebrate.
